Downey Woodpecker (Picoides villosus) REVISED


These two above are the male.



These are the female.


Finally! I was able to get close enough to get some decent shots of both the male and female. I've never seen them feeding together.



I prefer bird pictues when they are not at the feeders but more in a natural setting. I am posting a couple, one of each at the feeder so you can see the male has a red spot on the back of his head. Otherwise the male and female look alike.



The Hairy Woodpecker is similar to the Downy Woodpecker but a little larger and has a longer bill.

REVISION:--I originally thought the woodpecker was a "Hairy" but I posted on the POTN bird forum and was informed that this is a picture of the "Downey" woodpecker.
