More from Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuge

Spotted what I thought was a American Kestrel but when I looked it up in my book I'm thinking it's a Northern Harrier because of the size and large white rump band.  There were two of them hunting, it was really fun watching them and they didn't seem bothered that we were standing there either.  One more checked off my list! Also saw several Red Tailed Hawks and of course, more Bald Eagles.

Juvenile Bald Eagle

Taken at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge this past weekend.  My oh my, so many eagles in one place.  At least 20-30 all in this one spot.  We parked right underneath this one and took lots of photos.  It took a while but it finally spotted us and flew off.  More to come of a few other things we saw this day.....stay tuned.

Up a Tree

Okay, finally got our Christmas tree today, yeah!  We'll see how long it stays standing with this new 'snoopy' cat we have.  She has that name for a reason.  I wouldn't be surprised to find it laying on the floor in the morning or by the time we get home from work tomorrow evening.  :-)

Playing with Photoshop

I spent most of last weekend playing around with Photoshop again.  I found some tutorials out on the internet, and this is what I came up with.  FUN! but time consuming, for me anyway.

Governor's Shoot

Frankie invited me out to take some pictures of their group that was hosting the sporting clay portion of the Governor's shoot.  I don't know much about the details except that they form teams of 5 I believe, pay $250.00 each and go out and shoot pheasants then sporting clay.  Later in the evening they have a banquet.  He mainly just wanted pictures of each of the members working the shoot.

I don't like spiders....

....but I will take pictures of them.

Nice and Shady!

Last weekend Larry built a roof over out deck.  It is super nice and shady, now we can sit out there all the time. I think it looks great and now I have all kinds of place to hand stuff from.  :-)

We now have four, again.

Meet Snoopy, the newest addition.  I don't know how or why, but they always seem to find us.

One day last week after arriving hone from work, I was walking out to get our mail when all of a sudden there was this kitten running towards me mewing and panting (it was one of those really hot days), she looked at me with those cute little eyes and I swear I heard her say "please take me in your house, I'm so hot and thirsty, so naturally I did.  Just look at how cute she is, how could I possibly say no.  And now that we've named her I guess she will have to stay.  :-)

She is probably about 5-6 months old and has lots of energy.  The big kitties don't like her much yet, but they will just have to chill and get used to having her around.

Flight of the Sandhill Cranes

I was going through some photos and ran across this one from earlier this year.  It was one that I almost sent to the recyle bin but for some reason decided to keep it.  I wasn't too crazy about the original so did some blur filters in photoshop with it, converted it to B&W and added a frame.  What do you think??  I kind of like the abstract look but it's hard to tell on the computer screen how it really looks.

Return of the Hummingbirds

One of the only things I like about summer is the return of the Hummingbirds.

New Backyard Visitor

Had a new butterfly visit this year, a Zebra Swallowtail.  I saw it one time and haven't seen it again.  They generally hang out more towards the Missouri River I think.  Their host plant is the Paw Paw tree and I've seen them there before.  I was really suprised to see this one stop by.

It's not a really great picture as it wouldn't let me get very close.

Swallowtail butterflies are starting to return to the butterfly bush.

Flowers in my yard

Top picture is of the beautiful daylilies growing in my yard.

Middle picture....I have no clue what I planted here. I had some seeds and stuck them in the ground. This is what came up. I didn't keep the package so now I can't remember what I planted. They stay closed up too, i've yet to see the blooms open.

The yellow is a new one too...can't remember what it is either.

Bluebirds have finally hatched. These two earlier this week. I haven't been back out to check, but I believe all 5 have hatched now and mom and dad are very busy rounding up bugs to feed them. I'll check this week and see how things are going in there and post an updated photo.

Larry and his trees

We found these at a gift shop while on our California trip.  It states on the containers that these Sequoia Trees, if properly cared for, will grow anywhere.  Well, we'll see how well they do here in Nebraska.  :-)  Will we be around long enough to even see them...i doubt it.  Although, they told us that once they get to be 2-3 feet tall they will grow a foot each year.

Photoshop Fun

Photoshop Fun, a set on Flickr.
These are all experiments with actions in CS5. I was able to find some freeware on Adobe website. They download right to the program and are easy, easy to use; and when it comes to photoshop "Easy" is what I need.
