Mini's new do

Mini and her very own blanket.  It says "Mini Pearl, August 03, 2010.

Frank and Mini looking out the window.  Frank, you don't bark at people and cars too, do you?  :-)

Grandpa Frankie wanted to show off Mini's new haircut so I went over to take a few pictures.  She doesn't sit still for very long so it was difficult to get a good one.  Here are a few when she did sit still.  It's hard to take pictures of black and white, then throw in that bright pink blanket and you some of the pictures show a pink color cast.  Oh well, I'm sure there will be plenty of other opportunities to take pictures of Mini.

More of Baldy

Larry and I were just sitting around bored on Sunday so we decided to go out and search for our local Bald Eagle.  We found him down on the river, one of his favorite spots.  I was able to get several shots as he sat for quite some time before flying off.  We also spotted a juvenile eagle but we weren't close enough for any pictures.  Later that afternoon, when the sun came out, we headed out again and checked out a spot where we know of an eagle nest.  There were what appear to be a male and female sitting in the tree with the nest close by.  I'll be checking this nest out frequently this spring to see if they lay eggs.  We thought the nest had been abandoned as we didn't notice any activity last year.

CS5--In The Shadows

How to fix those photo's when your subject is in the shadows.

Open a photo where your subject is in the shadows.
Under "filter" choose "convert for smart filters".  This lets you apply the adjustment as if it was an adjusment layer (meaning you can re-edit it later).
Now choose Adjustments from the Image menu and select "shadows/highlights. Check mark "show more options".
Play around with the sliders until you get the desired look you want.
If you need to tweak these changes, because in step one you applied this as a "smart filter", you can go to the layers panel, double-click directly on the words "shadows/highlights and the "shadows/highlights dialog box will appear again, with the settings you used previously.  Make any changes and select OK.

Once I was done with all that.  I also had to add some brightness to get what I wanted.

These are just the rough directions but I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Here are the before and after of the photo that I practiced on.

A bad start to my day

This is not the greatest picture.  All I had was my cell phone.  What a view from the bottom of a very deep ditch!  I love the snow, but this was not very fun.  Luckily I was not hurt, just scared the bejeezes out of me and my car is unharmed so all is good again.  The thing that made me the most upset was that not a single car that went by stopped to see if I was alright or needed help!  What's up with that.

Meet Mini

Well, it didn't take long for Mom and Frank to get another dog.  This is Mini, their 5 month old Shih Tzu.  She is a cute little doggie.
