Nebraska State Capitol

After the green house, Kris took me to the Nebraska State Capitol.  I don't think I've been there since I was in grade school, many, many years ago.  I loved how there were so many ways the light played inside and outside the building.

A Visit to the Greenhouse

Krist took me to Campbell's Nursery today.  It was great to see some color for a change.

The new cat door

We looked at purchasing one that is specially made for sliding patio doors.  Well, the one we need is over $400!! so, we bought a $30 dollar pet door and made our own panel.  Not the prettiest but it works.  Took a little bit of prodding to get the cats to go in and out but they are catching on.  Here is Mui checking things out.

Red Tails in my backyard!

Holy cow!  I see these all over the place, along the highway, out in the country but never in my backyard.  There were two of them and the crows were chasing them away.  No wonder my little birds were staying undercover.

Playing Dead

This was like the funniest thing I had seen in a long time...a pheasant playing dead!  We were just driving along a country road and saw this pheasant in the field.  When we got close to it, it flattened itself down into the snow.  Once it knew that I was going to approach and take its it flew.  They sure are fast birds! Never before have I seen a bird do this.  Is this something they normally do?  Maybe some of you hunters out there would know.  Sorry for the poor photo, had to shoot fast.

Winter Meadowlarks

Out road tripping one wintery day, Larry and I happend upon a group of about six or so Meadowlarks.  I've never seen them in a group before, or been able to get a decent shot of one.  They always fly off when you pull up to take their picture...:-)

Bluebirds Return

I really need to get caught up on my posting.  I was really excited to see my bluebird family stop by a few weeks ago.  I suppose they were checking to make sure their house was still standing after all the harsh winds we've had.  There are 8 total so i'll be needing to put up another house or two.  It was such a thrill to witness from beginning to end how they raise their young.  Can't wait to see it again this year and  what a treat to have so many visit the yard.
