Crystal Springs-Fall 2010

Boy! there sure were a lot of varieties of birds there today.  The weather was kind of crappy, but all in all, it was a good day.  I did a little practicing with CS5 tonight on one of my pictures from today.  I experimented with the Content-Aware Fill feature.  I don't think I did too bad.

First you define the area you want to fill by using a selection tool.  I wanted to remove the branches in front of the Osprey.
Next, click on Edit in the tool bar
Click Fill.  The Fill dialog box opens.  Click to choose Content-Aware
Click Ok.  Photoshop fills the area with surrounding content.  Just clean it up with the Clone Stamp tool.

Here are the before and after pictures.

The Potter

I was really fasinated with this guy making pottery on the potters wheel.  I've never seen anyone actually do it, with the exception of the scene from "Ghost".  Never in person.  I could have stood there all day.

Osprey on a dreary day

On our way to the Apple Jack Festival in Nebr. City, we took a turn down a country road that takes you to a really neat park.  On the way, "eagle eye" Larry yells out  "Hey! I think there's an eagle in that tree".  It's only just a little ways to the park so we keep driving.  I tell him, I doubt it was an eagle, it's too soon for them, I think.  We get to the park and it's really packed with people.  It's very small and I think someone was having a reunion of some kind.  So, back down the road we go.  There's that bird, still sitting in the tree.  We stop, I get my camera and get a few shots and discover that it's on Osprey, not an eagle.  I was hoping that it would do a little fishing in the pond below it, it's really neat to watch them fish.

I also finally saw and got a picture of a Brown Thrasher.  One more to check off my list.

Patch N' Powder Gang book

This is a book I made up for the Patch N' Powder Gang from a shoot they had in September.  It only shows the first 15 pages.  I used Blurb.com to make the book.  It is a very easy site to use and reasonably priced. They do excellent work.

Faux Mat-at least 1 1/2 hrs...

...maybe the next one won't take quite as long. Thanks Kris for the tutorial.  A very economical way to display prints.  Matting and framing are so expensive. I may use this a lot.

Here's mine.  I wanted the outer border to be black but obviously didn't click something right and couldn't find my way back to where I needed too be to change it.  I will pay more attention next time.

Black Powder Novelty Shoot

Although I don't care for the brown tootsie pops, they still have the yummy tootsie roll center, such a waste of chocolate. :-)

The idea here is to start from the top and shoot one from each row.  They do this with both rifles and pistols.
Going way out of my comfort zone, I went with Frank today to one of their Black Powder shoots.  Now, anyone that knows me, knows I hate guns.  Why did I go you ask....I am bored taking pictures of my birds and butterflies, so thought I would venture out of my box and shoot something different. While they were shooting their guns, I was shooting my Canon.  :-)  Here are just a few of the shots I took today.   I'll post the rest here if you're interested in seeing more. Thanks for asking me to go Frank.. I had fun.

Are you ready for some football!

Went to Chase's first football game.  Scary to see them playing tackle football when they are so young. They did great and won the game.  Go Bombers!

Pretty bird

The humming birds have been very busy the past couple of weeks.  I have seen 3 of them at my feeders.  Definitely have one that is very territorial.  It chases the others away from the feeders.  They have to sneak in to get some of that yummy nectar.
