Bluebirds-Day 6

You can see the feathers starting to pop through. All 4 are still doing fine. Mr. and Mrs. B are non-stop to the house with food. I don't know how they keep going. Those little wings have gotta be tired.

Bluebird Babies days 3 and 4

Days 3 and 4. They grow fast and will fledge approx. 15-18 days after hatching. I hope I'm around to see them leave the nest. All four are still moving around. Mom and dad take turns feeding.

Babies are here! May 25, 2010

Yesterday there were eggs when I got home from work. Today, there were baby bluebirds. YEAH!!! I'm so excited. Both the male and female will take turns feeding the new babies. Mr. B brings Mrs. B bugs sometimes and she feeds the little ones.

I'm not sure when Mrs. B laid the 4th egg, but there it is. Now we just wait.

A Happy Mothers Day Indeed!

I don't know if she's just taking a look around, or if she is squirting out those eggs at this point. She has a pretty determined look on her face. :-)

Presto! We have Bluebird eggs. She left shortly after laying them. I hurried and took a couple shots before she came back.

I watched them all day 4:15 pm (CDT), Mrs. B laid 3 eggs. And on Mothers Day, how appropriate. Now my bird books says they usually lay 4-5 and one each day until the clutch is complete, but I swear when I looked a 1/2 hr. before, there were none in that nest. She must have been tired of carrying those eggs around. Incubation takes about 12-14 days and fledging 15-18 days. They are one of the few birds that will let you handle the nest and babies and still come back to the nest. How cool is that!!

More from my backyard

Mrs. Bluebird...she's getting pretty plump. Hope she lays those eggs soon.

Mr. Bluebird

House Wren...I have a pair. Hope they find the wren house I put up.

Female Baltimore Oriole. Boy, do they love that grape jelly!

Mrs. Cardinal. I thought something happened to all my cardinals. I had several pair of them, now only have seen one pair.

Just some more shots from my backyard. The birds are really starting to come around now.

Moving In

The male sits on the post like a guard. We saw him chase off other birds, a squirrel and one of my cats. After the cat incident, we moved the house a little farther away from the post.

The nest after two days of building.

Momma bird

Papa bird

The Bluebirds are moving in. Yea!!! I've been watching them for the past few days and they have a really good start on their nest. I've had to move there house already, it was a little close to the fence and one of my cats almost had Bluebird for dinner tonight. :-( They didn't seem to mind and once thing calmed down, they were right back to working on the nest. It's going to be really exciting watching them.
