Downy in the cold

I went down to find the Eagle that hangs out by the river, I found it but as soon as I drove down the road it flew away, so I got out and walked a ways down the path.  I spotted several little Downy Woodpeckers and they were nice enough to sit still long enough for me to get a couple of pictures.  This is one of them hope you enjoy.

On the same foggy morning that I took the photos in the previous post, I also drove out the Filley Stone Barn.  It's not far from where I live but I always forget about it being there.  I don't know why I thought of it this day.

Here's a little history about the barn.

The Filley Stone Barn, was built in 1874. This National Register site is the largest limestone bank barn in Nebraska. A fortuitous event initiated the building of this three-story native limestone barn. Drought conditions and the grasshopper invasion caused many farmers to leave the land and return back East. Knowing the success of the county depended on the farmers staying, Elijah Filley hired the men to stay and help build his barn. The barn stands today as a tribute to those early farmers.

Foggy Morning

Finally a foggy morning when I'm home!  I love to go out and take pictures in the fog but most of time the foggy days are when I'm working, so I was excited to see it this morning when I got up.  Here are a few pictures I took while I was out.

Beauty in Everything.

I had gone out this morning to refill all my bird feeders and replenish the baths when I saw this lone dandelion  with some seeds still hanging on, so back into the house to get my camera to get this shot.

Let It Snow...I wish it would!

Roses

The hubs did good, sent me a dozen red roses for our 10th anniversary.  Now I can play photographer with them. :-)  Here are a couple of photos I did with them, adding textures, text and boarders.

Birds Nest

(no real birds or eggs were disturbed in the making of this photo)

It's amazing what things you can find at Hobby Lobby, like this cool birds nest, feathers and bird eggs!

Santa on a Chair

Just messing around with some still life photography.  Pulled out one of my Santa decorations and sat him on my old wooden chair I found at an antique store.   It might make a nice Holiday Greeting Card, yes? no?

Fall Finds

I went to Crystal Springs this morning, not much going on over there but I did find a few things that caught my eye.  I've added textures in post processing to each of these.

OREO

This is OREO!  A neighbor's pet that they couldn't/wouldn't take care of anymore so they just let it loose.  People just don't understand that a tame/domesticated rabbit does not have the same survival instincts that wild ones do.
I think I have found the perfect home for it (we don't know if it's a he or she yet) with my step-sister and her family in Wisconsin.  Their rabbit hutch is now rabbit-less and they would love for Oreo to come live with them.  So, I may be making a road trip in the near future.

Oreo is a very nice rabbit and as you can see from the pictures is already litter box trained (bonus!) Oreo also doesn't mind my 4 cats.  I think Miu (bottom right) was hanging out with Oreo while on the loose.  Oreo however does not like barking dogs.

Such a cutie!  I will miss Oreo if he/she leaves.  Doesn't take long to get attached.

Humming Bird Headspin

This is Stubby again.  I didn't know I'd even captured him doing this until I downloaded the pictures.  Pretty wild.

Stubby Before and After

I had a friend request the before and after picture, so here it is.

Hummers!!

We've been sitting out on our deck every night for the past couple of weeks after we get home from work just watching these little guys zooming around.  There is one, we call him Stubby, that will sit for the longest time either on the feeder or out in the butterfly bush; it makes it real easy to get some good shots of him.  He's such a poser.

The hubs says there are about 8 of them, I've  only seen 4 at the most, he must be counting them twice.  :-)

Birds at the Lake

It's really nice having a boat now, we can almost sneak up on the birds.  :-) Saw some young and old.  The last picture is of Larry's dad.  He showed up at the lake so we brought him aboard for a cruise around the lake.

Apples

Apples!  It's getting to be that time again. We had a few from our trees this year but not many.  Hopefully next year we will have more.

Blue Moon 2012

I almost forgot about the Blue Moon and was lucky to get a decent shot because of the cloud cover.  I believe I heard this would be the last one until sometime in 2015 so good thing I remembered.

Plastic and Textures

Using a plastic bag from the produce section of the grocery store and textures in post processing, you can get some really awesome affects with your photos.  These are a couple that I did today.

I placed my items on a window ledge and only used the natural light coming in.  I cut he plastic bag so it was one big piece and taped it on a large picture frame, placing that in front of the items.  Took the shot then processed them with some textures in Photoshop.  Really cool!!  and easy, I like easy.

Before and After

Just wanted to show what a difference using actions and textures in Photoshop can do to your photos.  Some people don't like the idea of 'enhancing' but I say, why not?  I use textures from both paintthemoon.net and florabellacollections.com and actions from paintthemoon.net.  Go check them out both sites have some wonderful stuff!

Revisions

I have come across another wonderful website for textures so I decided to re-do some of my photos.  I like these much, much better.  For some really cool textures, check out florabellacollections.com

Just Peachy!

We have two peach trees that are only two years old, one of them was loaded this year! We've picked approx. 7 five gallon buckets of peaches off this one tree and there are still a few left on the tree.  Besides giving some away, I decided I would try and freeze some.  A very easy process, just time consuming but I did it!  I even made some peach crisp with them.  They are very, very tasty!
