Some sort of hawk. Not sure, could be a red tailed hawk. There are so many of these along the road.

Trying to hide

Almost missed this one. It was trying to hide in the weeds.

One-winged Pelican

Here you can see that part of it's wing is missing. He won't be flying south for the winter. Hope it's able to find shelter from the cold.

This is it's good side.

Poor thing. Hope it makes it throught the winter.

Taking Off

Another trip to Crystal Springs this weekend. Went to the Salty Dog to try out their Sunday breakfast. It was yummy! Then headed over to Fairbury, Larry wanted a look at the eagle. It was still there and I was able to get really close again. These shots are when it decided to take flight from it's perch. I wondered for a second if it was coming for my camera! It flew right over my head.
I hope to get over there again on a more sunny day before they are gone.

More Eagle

Looking right at me.

Look at that wingspan!

Beautiful colors. Good light to start the morning but it didn't last long.

More of the Eagle. I was able to get pretty close and it didn't seem to mind.

Eagle in flight

Heard throught the grapvine that there had been a juvenile bald eagle seen at Crystal Springs. Sure enough, it was there, and not too bothered with us following it around. It even flew right at us! Will definatley be going back to try to get more pictues of this one. Hope it stays around.

Ducks and stuff at Crystal Springs

Double-crested Cormorant. Really suprised to see these still hanging around. According to my bird book they migrate through the area.

Just a goose.

More geese. Loved the colors behind them.

And more.

Another great morning at Crystal Springs. The sun peeked out for a little while. There are still a few water birds hangin out there.

Blue Jays after a treat

They love peanuts.

Miu Napping

Miu taking a nap, as cats so often do.

BOO! Happy Halloween Kitties

Chewi sporting her Halloween t-shirt. I bought this for her thinking she might wear it to keep her warm since she had just been shaved about the time the temperature took a nose dive. She kept it on for awhile but not for long.

These were taken last week using the lights I borrowed from a friend. What is it about black that attracts cats?? I had no problem getting them to sit for pictures. ;0)

Homestead Natl. Monument

I've lived in this town for 34 yrs. and have never visited this place. I talked Larry into going out there to check out the new building and walk a little. We did a couple miles at least. It about killed Larry, but it was a nice walk. They even allow snowshoeing and cross country skiing.'ll have to bring your snow shoes down.
